My confidentiality policy is incredibly strict. I do not tell anyone the names or information of my coachees. I'm used to working under HIPAA standards and I hold myself to those.
That being said, there is one main exception worth noting. If there is risk of harm to anyone, self or others, I am legally obligated to report that. You might be familiar with the term "mandated reporting" - I am a mandated reporter, so if I have reasonable suspicion of child abuse I am legally obligated to report that as well.
You are welcome to tell anyone you want to about our coaching - I welcome referrals from all sources!
If you are a business who would like to hire me to coach employees, I have a separate confidentiality policy honoring both the confidentiality of the client and the source of the funding.
Therapy is a targeted process for diagnosing and treating mental health disorders and focuses on symptom reduction. Coaching is a goal-oriented approach that can target all aspects of life. You can have a therapist and a coach and be working on similar aspects of your life, or they can be serving wildly different purposes while both trying to move you forward towards happiness. Coaching is not a replacement for therapy, and I will not hesitate to refer clients out if I believe they need the assistance of a mental health professional. In my coaching, I request that my clients be transparent about if they are also seeing a therapist so that I can best address their needs and concerns.
If you are in Pittsburgh and wish to have the option for in-person coaching, we can absolutely discuss that. For everyone else, I do phone calls or video chat, unless the stars align and we are both attending the same conference or convention. If you want me to travel out to you, there will be travel costs involved.
I require 24 hours notice for cancelling/rescheduling sessions, or else there's a $50 cancellation fee. My time and your time are valuable, and I don't want a second of it wasted.
